As President Donald Trump’s administration enters its second year of his second term in office, residents across California are planning to take to the streets and voice their opinions on Jan. 20 as part of the ā€œFree America Walkoutā€ protest.

This will be the second major protest of the Trump administration since the start of the year, as Americans protested U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after an ICE officer fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis earlier this month.

It also falls on the first anniversary of Trump's second term inauguration.

The protest is organized by the Women’s March, 50501, FEMINIST, and other advocacy groups, organizers said. Organizers noted the major and turbulent actions under the Trump administration since the start of 2026, including the killing of Good, military operations in Venezuela, and the administration’s interest in annexing Greenland.

Organizers describe the walkouts as walking away from fascism and "towards a Free America." According to organizers, as of Jan. 16, there are more than 600 walkouts planned nationwide for Jan. 20.
