Teyana Taylor is the definition of multi-hyphenate: singer, dancer, actor, creative director and now, soon-to-be- chef.
During Variety's Actor on Actors interview with Oscar Isaac, the One Battle After Another star, 34, explained how she managed to tend to her filming duties while also keeping up with her school work at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts.
"It’s actually the thing that gives me a few [minutes] to just be quiet and cook. It’s an art," began the Golden Globe nominee. "But when I signed up and realized I had business classes and all other types of s---, I was like, 'Oh, s---, baby.' So now I’m on my way to the One Battle After Another premiere on my iPad, doing schoolwork."

She went on to add that cooking kept her grounded since some dishes required patience and proper timing to get right. She also credited working with One Battle After Another director Paul Thomas Anderson for preparing her for her directorial debut.
"Culinary school and working with PTA really geared me up. I feel like I’m going to be a great director," she said. "It might sound weird, like, 'All this from learning how to make a steak?'"
"I think you’re the coolest person I’ve ever met in my life. You’re so astounding — all the energy to do this," said Isaac, to which Taylor replied, "It's all about balance."
The Escape Room artist spoke more about the logistics of her class schedule during her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Dec. 9. When host Jimmy Kimmel asked her about how she's attending courses, she explained that, because of her day job, she has to attend classes online, which is significantly harder.

"I get to do it online, which is actually harder because you don't have your chef there to say, 'No, fix this, fix this. It's kind of like, 'Figure it out.'" While it's already known she has an incredible work ethic, Taylor goes on to say that she "takes pride" in her school work being turned in, adding, "I'm a straight A student! I be so proud."

Of all the dishes and techniques she's learning, including fabricating protein, the proud mom said she enjoys making pizza from scratch for her kids - daughters Junie, 9, and Rue, 5, whom she shares with ex-husband Iman Shumpert - followed by homemade butter, cornbread, whipped cream, pomme purée and pilaf rice.
Taylor first announced she was entering the culinary field back in June on Instagram. In a video featuring her eldest daughter Junie, Taylor donned a chef's hat and apron with her culinary school's uniform shirt and danced to GloRilla's hit song "Let Her Cook."
In the lengthy caption, she wrote, "Cooking and baking have always been more than just hobbies for me; they’ve been my passion, my peace, my therapy...Through every twist and turn in my life and career, the kitchen has been a safe space...No matter how hectic life gets, I find comfort in the rhythm of it all — the chopping, the stirring, the creating. Now, I get to take this love even deeper."
