Ben Marshall debuted his dead-on Jack Harlow impression on the April 11 *Saturday Night Live* Weekend Update, and he managed to fool even Harlow's nearest and dearest.
"My aunt texted me and told me she was proud of me for going on* **SNL** *and addressing everything," the rapper posted to his Instagram Stories on Monday. "My aunt That I am related to Actually thought that was me."
In the sketch, Marshall — as Harlow — addresses controversy surrounding his latest album, *Monica*, which features R&B-infused tunes. In March, Harlow told the *New York Times* that, unlike many white rap artists who shift into genres like country, he "got Blacker."
"I love Black music," he said. "I love the sound of Black music. And, of course, I'm hyper-aware of the politics of today, that safer landing spot that a lot of my white contemporaries have found."
The 'SNL' Harlow joked with *Weekend Update* host Michael Che about the artist's musical shifts and connections to traditionally Black music genres.
"I was at home for the holidays with my fam asking myself like, 'What's my new sound? What's my new sound?" Marshall said, explaining the supposed process for dreaming up *Monica*. "It was stressing me out, man. Damn near ruined my Kwanzaa."
Marshall then listed a few social media nicknames he said Harlow had been given, including "Most Def-initely not," "L.L. Cool Whip," D-Anglo," "J ZZ Top," "Little Wayne's World," and "Kan-ye It's Friday!"
He also revealed several alternate abbreviations he feels R&B could stand for, such as "rhymin'-n-boppin'" and "raised near *(but not with) *Black people."

In his interview with the *New York Times*, the real Jack Harlow indicated that he had felt he wanted to be "an even better artist" in his 30s.

"Early in my career, I was split between, Do I wanna be a celebrity or artist? I have now chosen artist in a way that I wasn't sure about early on. I thought I could do both, but I realized that not everybody can do both at the exact same moment," Harlow said.
The *Monica* album has not performed as well as his previous entries on the Billboard 200 — reaching just No. 40 in its debut, compared his last album to *Jackman.* which peaked at No. 8.
