Rachel McAdams is remembering her late co-star, Diane Keaton, with whom she co-starred in the 2005 holiday film, The Family Stone.

In remarks delivered at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on Tuesday, Jan. 20, the 47-year-old actress offered a thanks to "the legendary working actors who I was given the great gift to learn from."

Among them, she said, is "my beloved Diane Keaton, who took me under her wing like I was her own daughter."

"She taught me that no matter how long you've been doing this, you have to leave everything you've got on the table," McAdams said. "Each performance, you must muster up as much love as you possible can. And then you'll only feel like a dumb-dumb idiot half the time in life."

In an interview with Variety ceremony to coincide with the actress receiving her star, she also spoke about Keaton.

"I have great moments of self-doubt in every job. I remember Diane Keaton saying to me during The Family Stone that she still felt like acting didn’t come easily to her," McAdams said. "I was so surprised by that because she’s so effortless and she gives so much to it. But I still don’t feel like I have the art of acting figured out.”

The movie — which also starred Sarah Jessica Parker, Dermot Mulroney, Luke Wilson, Claire Danes, Elizabeth Reaser, Craig T. Nelson and more — tells the story of a large but close-knit family that's looking to bring Parker's Meredith into the fold. At the head of the family was Keaton as the family matriarch, Sybil Stone, whose breast cancer diagnosis shakes up their reunion.

Keaton died on Oct. 11 at age 79 after a bacterial pneumonia infection, per a death certificate. "The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane," read a statement from her family.

Following Keaton's death, Thomas Bezucha, writer and director of The Family Stone, told CNN that he’s working on a follow-up to his Christmas classic.

“I’ve been haunted by the loss of Sybil for months now while I worked on it, and so this was a blow on a tender bruise already,” Bezucha, 61, said. “Mentally, I’ve been spending time in that house where I’ve been missing her for a while already.”
