This year's list of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees includes everything from alternative rock to soul to heavy metal and post-punk.

*American Idol* host Ryan Seacrest and judge Lionel Richie revealed on Monday's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-themed episode of the reality competition that this year's class had been determined: Genesis-turned-solo star Phil Collins; "Rebel Yell" punk rocker Billy Idol; heavy metal band Iron Maiden; post-punk band Joy Division/New Order; British rockers Oasis; smooth R&B singer Sade; love song crooner Luther Vandross; and influential hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan.

While there was good news for the artists who made the cut, that wasn't the case for the Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Melissa Etheridge, New Edition, Pink, Shakira, INXS, Lauryn Hill, and Jeff Buckley, who weren't selected this time. (Still, there's hope for the future: Idol, Oasis, and New Order were nominated and not chosen last year.)

In order to be chosen for the honor, an act must be nominated by a committee that includes members and others in the music industry, such as journalists and additional artists. Nominees must have released their first music at least 25 years ago and have "demonstrated musical excellence, impact, and influence," according to the organization.

Billy Idol, Outkast lead Rock & Roll Hall of Fame noms

Billy Idol performs on day 3 of Shaky Knees Festival 2024 at Central Park on May 05, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia. , Big Boi of OutKast performs at ONE MusicFest at Lakewood Amphitheatre on September 10, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia. , Liam Gallagher performs at Etihad Stadium on June 01, 2022 in Manchester, England.

More than 1,200 people, including fans voting online, then determine which of the nominees will be recognized.

In addition to the performers who will be recognized this year, several acts will take home an Early Influence Award, including Celia Cruz; Fela Kuti; Queen Latifah; MC Lyte; and Gram Parsons.

Recipients of the year's Musical Excellence Award include Linda Creed; Arif Mardin; Jimmy Miller; and Rick Rubin.

Legendary TV host Ed Sullivan, whose talk show hosted the Beatles in some of their first performances in the United States, will receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award, given to non-performing industry professionals.

The 2025 class of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame included musical greats Outkast, Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper, Chubby Checker, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, and the White Stripes.

Historically, the night has featured big-name artists performing tributes for the inductees. (Remember that epic performance of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," when George Harrison was inducted as a solo artist in 2004?)

The new inductees will be feted on Nov. 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. (The ceremony will move back to Cleveland in 2027.)

Fans can watch the musical night in December on ABC and Disney+.
